CITY VIOLENCE PREVENTION INDEX
The City Violence Prevention Index (VPI) is a first-of-its-kind resource created to assist local governments as they develop and expand investments in violence intervention and prevention strategies beyond policing — strategies that are evidence-based, community-led, and anchored in a public health approach. The VPI lays out a comprehensive roadmap of public health-based violence prevention strategies and includes deep-dive policy resources for local policymakers. This annual report will also allow cities to track their progress over time.
The VPI comes at an opportune time when community violence intervention funding from the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act is set to begin making its way to localities, and as cities across the country continue to direct American Rescue Plan Act funds that can and must be used for life-saving community violence intervention strategies.
