Tremayne Edwards
Director of Fundraising and Strategic Partnerships
Tremayne Edwards leads as the Director of Fundraising and Strategic Partnerships at Community Justice, where he builds the organization’s development strategy and cultivates values-aligned partnerships to resource community-centered solutions to violence. His work is grounded in the belief that fundraising must be relational, not transactional — and that transformational movements are built on trust, shared vision, and deep accountability to the people most impacted.
Tremayne brings over a decade of experience across sectors including grassroots organizing, direct services, arts and cultural advocacy, and systems-level policy engagement. A Virginia native, he began his career in the Parks & Recreation Department, managing youth and senior programs before joining a co-launched community effort for a food co-op in a downtown food desert — mobilizing hundreds to support food access and local ownership.
He went on to serve at the Academy Center for the Arts, where he advanced from CRM and box office leadership to Director of Community Engagement. In this role, he supported a $30 million capital campaign that restored a historic theater and expanded access to the arts across Central Virginia. His efforts consistently centered marginalized voices and worked to increase representation in cultural spaces.
After relocating to Seattle, Tremayne served in the gun violence prevention field as Director of Development & Engagement for a statewide advocacy organization, bridging legislative strategy with public education and donor mobilization. He later joined Byrd Barr Place as Director of Operations, overseeing essential services including rental, utility, and food assistance for thousands of Seattle residents. Along with his team, Byrd Barr Place deepened its role as a key partner to Community Violence Intervention (CVI) organizations — ensuring individuals and families impacted by gun violence had consistent access to housing stabilization, food security, and financial relief during moments of acute crisis.
Across all of his work, Tremayne has demonstrated a deep ability to connect people and purpose, secure critical resources, and build organizational practices that reflect and honor the communities they serve. At Community Justice, he leads with authenticity, compassion, and a collaborative vision for liberation. His career reflects a consistent commitment to investing in solutions that honor the wisdom and resilience of Black and marginalized communities.
