Buffalo, New York – Following a proposal by Councilwoman Zeneta Everhart to create the Buffalo Initiative for Safer, Organized Neighborhoods (B.I.S.O.N), a City-wide Buffalo Office of Gun Violence Prevention, Tarria Stanley, Community Justice Regional Advocacy Manager, released the following statement:
“Councilwoman Zeneta Everhart’s resolution to establish the Buffalo Initiative for Safer, Organized Neighborhoods (B.I.S.O.N.) –– a dedicated, city-wide Office of Gun Violence Prevention –– is not just timely but essential following recent heartbreaking tragedies that have devastated our community and highlighted the urgent need for proactive measures against gun violence in Buffalo. We are committed to working closely with Councilwoman Everhart and her team to ensure this resolution is passed and fully funded.
“The B.I.S.O.N. office would provide support to families impacted by gun violence and implement evidence-based interventions that address root causes of violence, helping prevent gun violence from occurring in the first place. We call on the Buffalo Common Council to act swiftly on this resolution and urge Mayor Brown to allocate the necessary resources to bring this legislation to life, ensuring that Buffalo becomes a safer, more resilient city for all its residents.”
